For most parents, resort to the law is and should be a matter of last resort. Filing a due process or a state complaint generally may result in a satisfactory legal resolution but often creates a bitter taste in the mouths of school district officials. That being said, being armed with the relevant citations often can forstall the need for legal intervention; many parents have told me that when they cite to some statute or regulation, that often silences a rogue district employee.
